Our Story

YMM Art Education was born from a story of love and a dream.
Many years ago, a young artist father set out to find a place where his four-year-old daughter could learn to draw. He visited art schools large and small and met several reputed “master teachers,” but came away disappointed.
At the time, most art studios were small one-person workshops still using rigid teaching methods. They had no systematic theory, methodology or curriculum; teachers mostly taught the subjects they knew from their own training, focusing on technique and grading exams, with little attention to protecting a child's individuality or developing creative thinking and aesthetic sense. This worried the father deeply, because he knew how much early art education matters to a child's growth.
So he had an idea: to build an early art-education school of real scale — multicultural, open-minded, and focused on creative thinking and aesthetic literacy — for his own child and for the many other children who love to draw. And so, in 2005, the first “YMM Children's Art Education Base” opened in Shenzhen, China.

He put forward the philosophy and theory of “To Enlighten Wisdom by Art,” broadening teachers' understanding of art education, and set “a wise and tasteful life for every child” as YMM's educational goal. In the years that followed, many outstanding teachers who shared these ideals joined this passionate community.
After years of growth, YMM has become a mature early art-education brand. It now includes the YMM Art Education Centres (a chain of schools), the YMM Art Education Research Institute, the YMM Online Art Academy and other branches. Its curriculum research centre is in Shenzhen, with schools and teaching centres in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and other cities.
Today, many children aged 2 to 18 choose to study at YMM every year. Over the years, students hoping for art-related careers have gone on to leading art schools in China and abroad; many more did not work in the arts as adults, yet show strong creativity and aesthetic sensibility in their own fields.
That young father is Mr. Moxi, founder of YMM Art Education Group. From simply looking for a place where his daughter could create freely and grow into an outstanding member of society, to making “a wise and tasteful life for every child” YMM's goal; from developing YMM's theory, methodology and curriculum, to bringing together aesthetic thinking, original spirit, technology and modern management — he built YMM into the trusted early art-education brand it is today, benefiting more and more children.
The yangmei (Chinese bayberry) is a tall flowering tree native to southern China. It blossoms overnight each spring, and when summer comes its branches hang heavy with deep-red fruit — from afar, red dots fill the horizon. “Yangmei Hong” (bayberry red) expresses the hope that children who love art will flourish like the fruit of a thriving bayberry tree, turning the hills and fields red…
